Opinion: Flying Cars?

Flying cars have already been tested and are being employed in some cities around the world.

Before a societal shift towards less ground traffic and more flying cars, we need to think about the environmental implications. I see two.

  • greatly INCREASE carbon emissions and pollution
  • greatly DECREASE carbon emissions and pollution

Which one comes to be true depends on the engineering of the flying car.

For example, if flying cars are sustainable, then people who would previously be riding airplanes would likely turn to flying cars, considering they become cheaper. The emissions and pollution from airplanes would be largely reduced because airlines would need to limit the number of flying airplanes to make money.

If flying cars are just as bad in terms of pollution and carbon emissions, more vehicles would be on road, or should i say in the air, polluting the planet, in addition to the reduced number of airplanes. On a large-scale, there would be a lot more pollution until flying cars become fully sustainable.
